While outrage continues against comments by veteran Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan that purportedly defended the 'casting couch' practice, a Congress leader hit the headlines on Tuesday by saying even Parliament is not immune to the casting couch.
Renuka Chowdhury, whose term as a Rajya Sabha MP ended last month, urged India to stand against sexual abuse and say “#MeToo.”
"It is not just in the film industry. It happens everywhere and it is the bitter truth. Don't imagine that Parliament is immune or other workplaces are immune to it. It is time that India stood up and said #MeToo," Chowdhury said.
Chowdhury has been known for her outspoken views. In February, she sought an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly insulting her for having laughed during a speech by him in the Rajya Sabha.
In 2009, when she was the minister of state for women and child development, Chowdhury called on women to launch a 'pub bharo' campaign to protest the assault on a group of women pub goers in Karnataka by a rightwing group.
