Politicians in India seems to be running out dignified words to take on their opponents. This was clearly on display when Congress MLA and daughter of former Union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Praniti Shinde, insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a mosquito that spreads dengue.
According to media reports, Praniti Shinde, the MLA from Maharashtra's Solapur, addressing a public rally, said there is a new dengue mosquito in the country whose name is Modi baba that is causing everyone to fall ill. She further asked people to do everything possible to ensure that Modi is not in power the next year.
The MLA, in her address, also targetted BJP MP Sharad Bansode, calling him a drunkard. Reacting sharply to her comment, Bansode too decided to depart from all sense of honour when he called the Congress MLA someone who wears sleeveless clothes and attends parties.
The latest incident comes a few days after Independent MLA and dalit leader from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani, hurled abuses at the prime minister. At a rally in Patna on Wednesday, Mevani, while highlighting the plight of migrant workers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in Gujarat, repeatedly called the prime minister namak haram (someone who betrays trust). Questioning the silence of Modi over the incidents of violence against migrant workers, he had also said, "Shame on you, Narendra Modi, shame on you."
