The Congress on Tuesday slammed the early morning detention of its working president in Telangana Revanth Reddy, who is also the Kodangal MLA. Revanth was taken into preventive custody at his home in Kodangal in Mahbubnagar district after midnight following complaints he would disrupt a rally by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the constituency on Tuesday.

Revanth is the Congress's candidate from Kodangal for the coming Assembly election, when the state goes to polls on December 7 (Friday). Slamming the detention of Revanth, the Congress's official Twitter handle called the incident “a stain on our democracy & a clear sign that the @trspartyonline fears an imminent loss”. Revanth was detained amid considerable drama, with his aides arguing with police officials. Interestingly, his social media handles shared several videos of the incident.

Another Congress leader, G.N. Reddy, told a news agency that the detention of Revanth showed Rao was “misusing” the police. He said, “The manner in which police entered his bedroom, it has never happened in India. Revanth Reddy is not an ordinary man; he is a Brahmos missile and this missile is going to finish TRS.”

The Telangana election commission had on December 2 issued a notice to the Congress claiming supporters of Revanth could attempt to stage protests to disrupt the meeting of Rao at Kosgi on December 4. The Congress had announced demonstrations to coincide with Rao's visit to Kodangal to protest raids on Revanth's home on Saturday.

The Congress had also sought the disqualification of the TRS candidate from Kodangal, Narender Reddy, after Rs 51 lakh was seized from his home in an IT raid last week.
