Congress leader Sachin Pilot, one of the candidates in fray for the chief ministerial post in Rajasthan, has defeated BJP's Yoonus Khan by more than 50,000 votes in Tonk. Pilot secured 1,07,753 votes against Khan's 54,183 in Tonk.
Notably, Yoonus Khan is the lone Muslim candidate fielded by the BJP. Khan was also the transport minister in the Raje government. It was the first assembly election for 41-year old Pilot, a two-time Member of Parliament.
Pilot's victory comes as the Congress is all set to form a government in the desert state as the grand old party looks comfortable with a lead of 103 seats in the 200-seat assembly.
So far, both the Congress and the BJP have won in 6 seats, while the BSP in 2. The Congress is leading in 96 seats, the BJP in 65 and the BSP in 4.
Meanwhile, the Congress has announced that it will hold its legislature party meeting in Rajasthan on Wednesday to decided on who will be the chief minister. "The Congress Legislature Party meeting will take place tomorrow," Pilot said. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Pilot are frontrunners for the coveted post.
