A Delhi BJP leader on Monday started an indefinite hunger strike against Kamal Nath being nominated for the post of chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, alleging that the Congress leader was involved in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

Kamal Nath will be sworn in as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh at 1pm on Monday.

Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga started his hunger strike at Tilak Nagar in West Delhi where several families affected in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots live.

Protesting the Congress's move in selecting Kamal Nath for the Madhya Pradesh chief minister's post, Bagga said, "I am sitting on an indefinite hunger strike against Rahul Gandhi's decision to nominate him [Kamal Nath] as CM. He is the same person who was involved in the riots against Sikhs in Delhi."

Bagga said his hunger strike will continue till Kamal Nath is replaced by someone else as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. Several BJP leaders are supporting Bagga's protest.

BJP's leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said the Congress had "hurt" Sikh sentiments by appointing Kamal Nath as chief minister.

Interestingly, the protest against Kamal Nath's appointment comes hours after the Delhi High Court convicted a once-prominent Delhi Congress leader, Sajjan Kumar, in a case over the anti-Sikh riots.
