Amid the political uncertainty in Goa following the demise of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the Wikipedia page of Assembly Speaker Pramod Sawant was seen edited on Monday to describe him as the successor of Parrikar.

“The Chief Minister who succeeded ex CM Manohar Parikkar, Dr. Pramod Sawant was born on 24 April 1973 to Pandurang and Padmini Sawant,” read the opening sentence in the Early Life section of his page. The page was last edited on March 18 at 07:58 (UTC).

Sawant is among the front-runners to the chief minister post after the death of Parrikar. However, it is reported that the independent MLAs, whose support is necessary for the BJP to remain in power, are not in favour of choosing Sawant to the top post.

Union Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, who arrived in Panaji early on Monday, could not secure a consensus between the saffron party and its alliance partners in the state.

Parrikar breathed his last on Sunday evening at his private residence in Dona Paula.
