Senior Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi has quit from the party, NDTV reported on Friday morning. Chaturvedi, perceived to be one of the most articulate spokespersons in the party, reportedly resigned on Thursday night.
Chaturvedi had been relatively inactive on Twitter from Wednesday, when she complained that the Congress had given “preference” to “lumpen goons” who had misbehaved with her. She was referring to a recent incident at a press conference in Mathura where local workers of the Congress allegedly misbehaved with her. The workers, who were suspended, were subsequently reinstated.
Chaturvedi had then tweeted, “Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get prefence (sic) in @incindia over those who have given their sweat&blood. Having faced brickbats&abuse across board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate.”

Some media reports claimed Chaturvedi had exited social media groups of the Congress before news of her resignation emerged.
Chaturvedi had joined the Congress in 2010 and had risen steadily through the ranks of the party, becoming an articulate critic on the Narendra Modi government on both TV, digital and social media.
