The third phase of the Lok Sabha polls is currently under way in India, and citizens will exercise their franchise to decide which national political party will be governing the country for the next five years.

The elections to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha are being held in seven phases, two of which is already done. In the third phase, the following states and Union Territories are going to polls: Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Assam, Tripura, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared on May 23.

Every citizen of India, who is above the age of 18 years and has a voter ID card, is eligible to cast their vote.

Your name (as given in the voter ID card) must be in the voters list.

How to check your name in voters list:

1. Open the official website of National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP).

2. Click on 'Search your name in Electoral Roll' option below the 'Search' button on the homepage.

3. You will be given two option to check your name on the voters list―'Search by Details' and 'Search by EPIC No'. Choose one of these options.

4. Under 'Search by Details', enter your details such as Name, Age, Date of Birth, Gender, Father's/Husband's Name, State, District, Assembly Constituency and Code, and click on Search.

5 Under 'Search by EPIC No.', enter your Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) Number, State and Code, and click on Search.

6 You can check if your name is in the electoral roll.

You can also check you name in the list via SMS: SMS <ECI> space <EPIC No> to 1950 (EPIC stands for Electors Photo Identity Card also commonly known as Voter ID card). Example - If your EPIC is 12345678 then sms ECI 12345678 to 1950

How to find Lok Sabha Election 2019 poll booth?

You need to find your polling booths to cast your vote.

The details of your poll booth will be displayed in the search result when you enter your voter ID card or details in the search box of NVSP portal's 'Search your name in Electoral Search'.

Once you have confirmed your polling booth, you need to keep these steps in mind when you go to vote:

1. Carry your voter ID card with you when you go to vote.

2. When you reach the polling booth, an official will check your name on the voters list and cross check it with your ID.

3. A second polling official will ink your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register.

4. You will have to deposit the slip at the third polling official and show your inked finger and then proceed to the polling booth.

5. Record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM); You will hear a beep sound.

6. Check the slip that appears in the transparent window of the VVPAT machine. The slip with the Candidate serial No., Name and Symbol shall be visible for 7 seconds before it drops in the sealed VVPAT box.
