The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of India has issued an advisory listing out the Do's and Don'ts for surviving and managing cyclones like Fani, which was today ranked an 'extremely severe cyclonic storm'. The storm is expected to hit parts of Orissa today.

The advisory, released on Twitter and other social media platforms, advises citizens to keep their phones charged, keep a radio set set, switch of electrical mains and gas supply, and rely only on official warnings (amongst other suggestions).

The NDMA also released video guides for what one should do before and during a cyclone.

An additional video guide was released for fishermen.

With wind speeds of up to 200 kmph, cyclone Fani is expected to strike parts of coastal Orissa today. The government has started mass evacuations along the coast, of the kind that saved thousands of lives during the last such incident in 2013. Tourists are have been officially advised to leave Puri, which will be the first major city to face the cyclone.

Orissa has been put on yellow alert, with heavy rains expected for a few days.
