The death toll in Surat's horrific blaze in a coaching centre rose to 23 by Saturday, according to reports.
Addressing media, Surat Commissioner of Police Satish Sharma said that more than 20 people have also been injured in the blast. An FIR has been registered against three people and the main accused, who used to conduct the classes, was arrested Friday night, he said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to victims' families, and has ordered a fire safety audit of all educational institutions in the state.

On Friday evening, the top floor of Takshila Complex, located in Sarthana area of Surat, caught fire. The students were attending coaching classes for the upcoming National Aptitude Test in Architecture.
The gory videos of students jumping to “safety” went viral.
