Ending all speculations, the Centre has released the list of portfolios of the newly inducted council of ministers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Former home minister Rajnath Singh has been appointed as the Defence Minister. BJP chief Amit Shah will become the new Home Minister, while Nirmala Sitharaman replaces Arun Jaitley as the Finance Minister. Former foreign affairs secretary S. Jaishankar will succeed Sushma Swaraj as the external affairs minister.

Nirmala Sitharaman has pipped leaders such as Piyush Goyal, who had taken charge as the interim finance minister in the previous government, to become the finance minister. She has also been given the charge of Corporate Affairs ministry. 

PM Modi will be in charge of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy; and Department of Space.
