BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya came under fire after he was caught on camera assaulting a municipal official during a demolition drive. He was later arrested on Wednesday. However, three women have come out in support of the beleaguered MLA .

Sapna Shrivansh (40) and two other women from the family which lives in the house held a press conference Thursday and supported the MLA, PTI reported.

"Our family has been living in this rented house for 80 years. It was declared dilapidated by the municipal corporation and we were asked to vacate it within two days. We sought more time but the corporation did not heed our request," Shrivansh said.

The demolition team entered the house forcibly and "misbehaved" with the women of the family, she alleged.

The other two women said that Akash Vijayvargiya reached the spot after learning about what was happening and opposed the demolition.

"He took up the bat to protect women," said one of them.

Vijayvargiya moved the sessions court here after the magistrate's court denied him bail.

The sessions court reserved its order after the issue of jurisdiction came up, as there is a special fast-track court set up in Bhopal for handling cases against MPs and MLAs.

Akash's lawyers pleaded that though a special court has been set up for trial of cases against legislators, the sessions court can very well decide on bail pleas.

The sessions court reserved its order on the issue.
