Unnao rape survivor, who met with an accident on Sunday, is in a very critical condition with a suspected head injury. "Both are on ventilators and critical. We cannot say anything on the prognosis. It is too soon," Dr Sandeep Tiwari, head of department of trauma surgery, told THE WEEK.
"There is suspicion of head injury though this has not shown up in the CT scan. The lady has a fractured femur. The lawyer has multiple fractures," he added.
Earlier, the mother of the survivor had said that they need better treatment, which is not possible at Lucknow's King George's Medical University. She said that her daughter is in a critical condition.
"My daughter was making some sounds yesterday. Today she is completely silent. She is breathing but I am not sure she will live. She is on oxygen support," she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal met the Unnao rape survivor at the Lucknow hospital, and said she should be airlifted to Delhi for better treatment as she is "critical".
"I met Unnao rape survivor, her lawyer and doctors. The doctors told me that the victim and the lawyer are critical and have less chances of survival. Doctors believe that they should be airlifted to the best hospital in Delhi. The family also wants this. I am talking to the hospital. We will shoulder the responsibility," Maliwal posted on Twitter.
Maliwal also wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, asking him to urgently arrange for airlifting the victims so that the Commission can ensure better treatment to them in Delhi.
She said any delay will only endanger the lives of the victims.
The rape survivor, who is now 19-years-old, lost two aunts in the accident while she and her lawyer received critical injuries. The accident occurred as an over-speeding truck hit the car they were travelling.
The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday filed a murder case against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and nine others after the Unnao rape survivor's family filed a complaint, alleging "conspiracy" behind the car crash.
Sengar, a four-time MLA from UP's Bangermau, is an accused in the rape case and was arrested last year in April.
