Rescue operations are in full swing in the rain-battered central Gujarat city of Vadodara. Five teams of NDRF are being airlifted from Pune to help with the rescue operations even as heavy rainfall has been predicted in various parts of Gujarat. The Army too has been called in to help with the rescue operations.

Following the heavy rainfall on Wednesday, six people have been reported dead and most areas of the Banyan City continue to remain inundated. The woes of Vadodara residents are unlikely to be abated anytime soon. More than 20 per cent area of the city is without electricity since last night. The state government has said 47 out of the 304 electricity feeders have been closed as a precautionary measure.

More than 5,000 people have been moved to safer places and the government and various organisations have prepared more than 75,000 food packets.

All the six bridges above river Vishwamitri, which has been flowing above the danger mark following release of water from Ajwa Reservoir, continue to remain closed for vehicular traffic. More than 24 trains have been canceled or diverted. The state transport bus service in the city and the bus service in Vadodara continue to remain suspended.

Waters have entered homes located on ground floors in majority of the areas and the extent of damage, including damages to vehicles, would be known only after the waters recede.

The GSFC plant on the outskirts of the city was also shut down as water entered its premises.
