Incessant rain continues to lash different parts of Karnataka affecting lives and transportation on Wednesday. Several parts of Shivamogga district were cut off road connectivity and power supply disrupted. Flood situation worsened in 15 of the 30 districts after heavy rains in the state.
The traffic along National Highway 766C that connects Byndoor with Ranebennur was affected for sometime owing to a landslip near Nagodi village in Hosanagar taluk, reported The Hindu.
The vehicular movement along Shivamogga-Sagar stretch of National Highway 69 came to standstill as a huge tree fell on the road near Joginagadde village. More than 100 electricity poles are down in Sagar, Hosanagar and Sorab taluks owing to heavy wind, the report added.
While north Karnataka regions of Belagavi and Gokak were the most battered in the rains and floods, weather officials issued a red alert for southern and coastal parts of the state for the next three days. Belagavi bore the brunt as water from the Koyna dam in neighbouring Maharashtra gushed into the Krishna river.

Besides the Krishna river, the Markandeya, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha and Bheema rivers are in spate, wreaking havoc in many parts of the state. Landslips were reported from some affected districts, leading to disruption in the road and rail networks.
At least two people have died as Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura and Raichur districts in the north, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada in the coast and Shivamogga and Chickamagaluru in the Malnad or hill region have been hit amid torrential rains.
Personnel of the Indian Army and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Belagavi, Raichur and Bagalkot districts for rescue and relief operations and more teams are being sent to the areas.
