Assam BJP leader Dilip Kumar Paul claimed that cows produced more milk when a flute was played in the style of Lord Krishna, The Indian Express reported. “It has been proven by modern scientists that if we can play the flute in a special tune, which Lord Krishna used to do, the amount of milk increases multiple times,” Paul said, at the opening ceremony of a folk festival in Silchar on Sunday evening. “This was the science of ancient times and we are going to bring this technique back to modern times,” he claimed, according to the report. THE WEEK was unable to independently confirm the veracity of the report.

Paul is a two-time BJP MLA from Assam's Silchar. He was elected as the deputy speaker, later making way for Kripanath Mallah and later, Aminul Haque Laskar.
Opinion on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016—irretrievably linked to the NRC—was divided in the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys of Assam, following political parties voicing support to it in the Barak valley after opposing the bill in the Brahmaputra valley.
In July last year, 40,07,707 people were excluded from the complete draft of the NRC, which contained the names of 2,89,83,677 eligible people out of a total 3,29,91,384 applicants.
An additional 1,02,462 people were added to the list of excluded inhabitants of the state in June this year, taking the total number of those ineligible for Indian citizenship to 41,10,169.
The NRC has also created a linguistic divide in Assam, which always considered Bengali language a threat to Assamese identity. The final NRC list, which will identify bonafide citizens of Assam, is set to be published on August 31.
