The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have apparently failed to inform the Election Commission that they had received monetary contribution from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. According to media reports, the DMK, in its latest affidavit to the poll panel, claimed that they had paid money to the left parties.
The DMK claimed it had given Rs 10 crore to the CPI(M) in three installments—April5, 8 and 9—and transferred Rs 15 crore to the CPI in two installments.
The CPI has not submitted its expenditure to the commission, while the CPI(M) claimed that the party's total expenditure was approximately Rs 7.2 crore. It, however, remained silent on the contribution from the DMK.
The DMK and the left parties are in alliance in Tamil Nadu. The BJP, a common foe of the Dravidian major and the left parties, jumped on the issue and called it a serious violation of law.
"If true, this is an extremely serious charge where one political party in its affidavit states of having given another political party a huge amount of money which the other political party doesn't disclose in its affidavit,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli was quoted as saying by the IANS.
The DMK has declared a total expenditure of approximately Rs 79 crore. The expenditure declared by other parties are: AAP (Rs 1.3 crore), BJD ( Rs 227 crore), NCP ( Rs 72.35 crore), BSP ( Rs 55.39 crore), SP (Rs 5.5 crore) and TMC ( Rs 83.6 crore and Rs 10 core in two affidavits).
The BJP has not yet submitted its expenditure.
