The Chennai police on Friday arrested AIADMK functionary C. Jayagopal who had been on the run for the past fifteen days after an illegal banner erected by him for his son's wedding killed a 23-year-old techie.
The special police team arrested Jayagopal from one of his relatives' house at Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district. He was booked in two cases—one is for erecting banners without permission from the Chennai Corporation under Section 326 of the IPC and Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places Act, and the other is under Section 304 A for causing death by negligence.
The incident happened on September 12 when Subhasri Ravi, software engineer, was crushed by a tanker lorry as she lost balance and fell off her two-wheeler after the illegal hoarding fell on her near Pallikaranai.
Jayagopal is being brought from Krishnagiri to Chennai where he will be produced in a local court.
The police took 15 days time to locate and arrest Jayagopal even as there was an outrage on social media.
