Twenty people were killed and more than 30 others injured when a bus which they were traveling in turned turtle near Trishala Ghat in Gujarat on Monday late afternoon. The bus was on its way from Ambaji to Danta in Banaskantha district.
The accident took place after the bus reportedly collided with a truck. The injured have been taken to a hospital in Palanpur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah expressed grief over the tragic accident and sent condolences to the kin of the victims.
In a tweet, Modi said that the local administration was providing all possible help to the injured.
"Devastating news from Banaskantha. I am extremely pained by the loss of lives due to an accident. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families," the prime minister tweeted.
Shah in a tweet said that he was deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to the tragic bus accident. He said that he had spoken to the state and local authorities and they were doing everything possible to help the people in need.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, too, expressed grief over the loss of lives and spoke to local officials to provide the best possible treatment.
