The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released the first list of candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on October 21.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will contest from Karnala while state BJP chief Subhash Barala has been fielded in Tohana.

The party has given tickets to a number of eminent sportspersons. Among them wrestlers Babita Phogat and Yogeshwar Dutt will contest from Dadri and Baroda respectively. Former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh has been fielded in Pehowa.

BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said the first list was finalised at party's central election committee meeting on Sunday. The party has repeated 38 MLAs and dropped seven of them. The first list includes nine women and two Muslims.

While the main contest in the elections to the 90-member assembly is seen between the BJP and the main opposition Congress, other players in the poll ring include the Indian National Lok Dal, JJP formed after a vertical split in the INLD, AAP, Swaraj India party and the LSP.
