Former Punjab BJP president and senior party leader Kamal Sharma passed away on Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack.

Sharma, 48, went for a morning walk in Ferozepur where he suffered complained of chest and collapsed, his close aide said. He was rushed to a local hospital, but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

Two hours before his death, Sharma had greeted people on the occasion of Diwali on his social media accounts.

Sharma, who took over Punjab BJP chief in 2013, is survived by his wife and two children. He had resigned from the post in 2015.

His body will be cremated on Monday at 11 am in Ferozepur, said Subodh Verma, BJP president of Fazilka district, according to Indian Express.
