BJP to hold demonstrations seeking Rahul's apology

The BJP would hold protest demonstrations across the country on Saturday, demanding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's apology for misleading the country on the Rafale deal. BJP working president JP Nadda asked party functionaries to expose the "blatant lie" of Congress leaders which has hurt the country's image abroad, by raising questions on the transparency of defence deals in India. He asked party workers to go to people and "expose" the Congress's "slander campaign" against the government.

Cong-NCP plans meet Maharashtra Governor

  A Congress-NCP delegation has sought an appointment with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday to discuss the plight of farmers who have suffered crop losses due to recent unseasonal rains. Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said that a delegation of the two parties has sought the governor's appointment to discuss the problems being faced by farmers in the wake of untimely rains that hit several parts of the state recently. The Congress leader maintained appointment with Koshyari has been sought only to take up farmer issues and not to discuss the current political situation in the state which is under President's rule.

Civic body polls in Rajasthan 

Polling for election of 2100 ward councillors in Rajasthan's 49 civic bodies will be held on Saturday. According to the State Election Department, a total of 7944 candidates are in the fray. Polling through electronic voting machines will commence from 7 am and last till 5 pm. A total of 33.06 lakh voters in the state will be able to exercise their franchise, of which 17.05 lakh are men and 16.01 women. Counting of votes will be done on November 19. Election for chairman and deputy chairman of local bodies will be held on November 26 and 27 respectively.

AAP to observe 'Dhoka Diwas' against BJP's promise 

Senior AAP leaders and party MLAs will observe 'Dhoka Diwas' on Saturday to protest against BJP's "false promise" to regularise unauthorised colonies. Calling BJP's announcement to regularise unauthorised colonies an "election gimmick", senior AAP leader Gopal Rai said the BJP's intentions are "not genuine".

Naidu to present PCI's national awards for excellence in journalism

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will on Saturday present Press Council of India's national awards for excellence in journalism with Rajasthan Patrika group chairman Gulab Kothari to be honoured with the prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy prize. The award will be presented on the occasion of the National Press Day. The occasion will be marked by a discussion on "Reporting -- Interpretation: A Journey". The Press Council of India (PCI) had on November 6 announced other winners of the National Awards for Excellence in Journalism 2019.

Lanka to elect new president 

Sri Lanka will go to the polls on Saturday to choose a new president, an election that will decide the future of the country that struggles with security challenges after the Easter Sunday bombings and increasing political polarisation. The election will see a close contest between former wartime defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, 70, and the ruling party candidate Sajith Premadasa, 52. Anura Kumara Dissanayake from the National People's Power (NPP) coalition is also a strong candidate. There are 15.9 million eligible voters who will choose a successor to President Maithripala Sirisina among a record 35 candidates.

Pro-China protesters to rally amid Hong Kong chaos

Pro-China protesters plan to rally in Hong Kong on Saturday to denounce increasingly violent anti-government unrest in the Chinese-ruled city and support the police who have become a prime target of attack.The former British colony has been embroiled in more than five months of demonstrations, with pro-democracy protesters angry at perceived Communist Party meddling in a city guaranteed its freedoms when it returned to Chinese rule in 1997 

Women's doubles tournament from Nov 16

The Bengaluru qualifiers of Red Bull Shuttle Up, Indias first ever exclusive womens doubles tournament, will be held on Saturday. Qualifiers have already been held across Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Chandigarh. The winning team from each qualifier will take part in the national Finals to be held in Hyderabad on December 8.
