Lynch the rapists: Angry Jaya Bachchan leads women safety discussion in Rajya Sabha

Upset with lack of women safety in the country, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan called for severely dealing with the rapists who tortured and murdered a woman veterinarian in Hyderabad. "These types of people (the rape accused in the Telangana case) need to be brought out in public and lynched," Jaya Bachchan said, adding, "I think it is time... the people want the government to give a proper and definite answer".

"I don't know how many times I've stood and spoken after this kind of crime. I think it is time... whether Nirbhaya or Kathua or what happened in Telangana... I think the people now want the government to give a proper and definite answer," Jaya Bachchan told the Rajya Sabha. "What has the government done? How have they tackled it? How has justice been done for the victims? I am not taking names... but shouldn't the security be held responsible? I feel only one day earlier something similar happened in that area in Telangana... why wasn't this stopped?" she charged against the ruling dispensation. 

She added that the security personnel in-charge of the area in Hyderabad where the crime took place be held accountable and questions be asked. "They must be named and shamed," Bachchan said. 

MPs cutting across party lines condemned the recent spurt in crime against women and demanded stringent laws that punishes the guilty within a fixed time-frame. 

Four men, all lorry workers, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on November 29 on charges of raping and killing the woman and had been sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Saturday. The charred body of the 25-year old woman, who worked as an assistant veterinarian at a state-run hospital, was found under a culvert in Shadnagar in Hyderabad on November 28, a day after she went missing.

According to media reports, the four accused had carefully planned the rape and murder in great detail.
