The Bharatiya Janata Party's Kerala unit has been at the receiving end of social media jibes after it got the spelling of INDIA wrong on a banner put up during a rally in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

In further embarrassment, the party made another goof-up on the same banner as it also misspelt the Malayalam word 'yajnam'.

The slip-up was first noticed after a local BJP leader shared the pictures of the rally on Facebook. Since then, the BJP has been getting schooled on social media, with several netizens taking sarcastic jibes at the party, asking it to “first learn how to write India”.

The banner was put up during a campaign conducted by party's Palakkad unit to garner public support in favour of the contentious legislation. The rally was attended by several senior leaders including Nalinkumar Kattil and C.K. Padmanabhan.

Kerala has witnessed widespread protests against the amended Citizenship Act with both the ruling CPI(M) and the opposition Congress staging joint protests against the law.
