In the wake of reports that there has been violence in some parts of southeast and west Delhi, the Delhi Police requested people not to believe in rumours that are being circulated on social media.
Shopkeepers had downed shutters and people rushed to reach home early in several areas including Subhash Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri and Khyala in west Delhi.

This was following reports of violence from certain localities, creating fears of return of violence that so far claimed 46 lives and left hundreds of people injured.

The police also clarified that there is no truth behind reports of tension in Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of west Delhi. "A rumor has been noticed that there is some tension in Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of West District. There is no truth behind it. All are requested to keep calm as the situation is absolutely normal & peaceful," the police tweeted.

"There are some rumours regarding some communal tension in Tilak Nagar and Khyala area. It is intimated that there is No tension in Tilak Nagar and Khyala and whole west Distt area. Nothing to worry about," he added.
Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh too urged people to remain calm. "I reached at the site as soon as I heard of the rumour of riots, shops were shut people were in a state of panic but no one saw any riots happening. It was a conspiracy to spread rumours and spoil the atmosphere. I appeal to people to maintain peace and brotherhood and do not believe the rumours," he said.
A senior police official had said the Delhi Police registered 254 FIRs and arrested or detained 903 persons in connection with the violence. Forty-one of the cases were registered under the Arms Act.
Earlier, the Delhi Metrol Rail Corporation had tweeted that entry and exit of Nangloi, Surajmal Stadium, Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Uttam Nagar west and Nawada are closed. Later, DMRC said the gates are open and normal service has resumed.
