The Congress party on Thursday announced its nine candidates from various states for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
In Madhya Pradesh, where the party suffered a major setback after the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior leaders Digvijaya Singh and Phool Singh Baraiya were named as the candidates. Though the Congress is sure to win one seat in the state, Scindia's exit has dampened its hopes on the second.
On Wednesday, soon after his induction into the BJP, Scindia was named by the saffron party as its Rajya Sabha candidate from the state. It was reported that Scindia, an influential leader from the state, had been upset with the Congress leadership over denial of candidature.
In Chhattisgarh, the Congress named K.T.S. Tulsi and Phulo Devi Netam as candidates while in Jharkhand, Shahzada Anwar will be the party's candidate.
Senior party leader K.C. Venugopal will contest from Rajasthan along with Neeraj Dangi.
In Maharashtra, Rajiv Satav has been nominated for the upper house, while in Meghalaya, Kennady Cornelius Khyiem will be the party's candidate.
