A day after his former aide Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that the Madhya Pradesh leader abandoned his ideology and went with RSS because he was worried about his political future.
Scindia quit the Congress on Tuesday and joined the BJP a day after. Soon after his induction, the saffron party named him as a candidate from Madhya Pradesh for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. Speculations are rife that Scindia would also be made a minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet.
“This is a fight of ideologies. On one side is Congress and on the other side is BJP-RSS,” Rahul said while talking to media in New Delhi.
“I know Jyotiraditya Scindia's ideology. He was with me in college, I know him well. He got worried about his political future, abandoned his ideology and went with RSS. What he is saying and what is in his heart is different,” Rahul said, adding that Scindia would not get respect in the BJP.
Asked why he is not sending his core team members to Rajya Sabha, Rahul said: “I am not the Congress president. I am not taking decisions on Rajya Sabha nominees.”
On Wednesday, Rahul dismissed reports that he had refused to meet Scindia for months.
“Scindia is the only one who can walk into my house anytime... He was with me in college,” Rahul said.
Meanwhile, the BJP confident of forming the government in Madhya Pradesh with Scindia's help as 22 MLAs, including his supporters, have resigned from the state assembly reducing the Kamal Nath government to a minority.
