Even as the COVID-19 positive cases in India crossed 500, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete lockdown across the country for 21 days. The lockdown will be effective from Tuesday midnight.

During his second address to the nation on the pandemic that is raging across much of the world, Modi gave a new definition to the epidemic—'Koi Road Par Na Nikle' (nobody should get on to the road).

"If we don't handle these 21 days well, then our country, your family will go backwards by 21 years," he said. The prime minister added that there will be complete ban on people stepping outsides of their houses.

Experts and the experience of countries fighting the deadly virus make it clear that the social distancing is the only way to combat the disease, he asserted.
