With speculation rife that he was quitting the Congress to join the BJP, senior party spokesperson and eminent lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Thursday took the poetic route to try and silence the incessant buzz.

Various versions of the cryptic clue that a top-notch lawyer who is also a leader of the Congress party was headed to the BJP were doing the rounds of social media of late. Some even suggested that the Modi government was offering him a plum post. And it was widely speculated that the person being referred to is Singhvi.

Eventually, the lawyer-cum-politician took recourse to Urdu poetry in a series of tweets to rubbish the rumours.

In one tweet, through a couplet, he indicated that the rumours have emanated from sources where he inspires jealousy.

In another tweet, he said, "For all of you who GOSSIP about me: THANKS FOR MAKING ME THE CENTER OF YOUR WORLD."

He also tweeted that gossip is the devil's radio, asking people to desist from being his DJ.

The Congress, too, rubbished the speculation, with Randeep Surjewala, AICC Communications Department head, tweeting: "These sources of information are aimed at spreading canards intended to tarnish reputations. We reject them with the contempt they deserve."
