One CRPF jawan was killed and two were injured after militants attacked a CRPF checkpoint at Sopore in Baramulla on Wednesday morning.
The attack took place at Reban. Three militants fired indiscriminately at the CRPF men guarding the checkpoint.
CRPF PRO Junaid Khan told THE WEEK that the attack took place when the CRPF was carrying out daily deployment of forces in the area.
“One CRPF man has been martyred and two were injured in the attack,'' Khan said.
Reports from Sopore said three CRPF men were critically injured. A civilian standing near the checkpoint was also killed in the attack.
The area has been cordoned off and more troops have arrived on the scene.
Militants, especially, The Resistance Front (TRF)—which the security forces believe is Lashkar-e-Taiba in disguise—have been active in Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
The group has carried out several fatal attacks on security forces in which 13 security personnel have died since April.
Since January, the security forces have killed 128 militants, most of them in south Kashmir. The security forces are now planning to focus attention on militants in north Kashmir where many foreign militants are present.
