The University Grants Commission on Wednesday issued a circular declaring 24 universities as fake and said these institutions are not empowered to confer any degree.
"Students and public are informed that currently 24 self-styled, unrecognised institutions are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, which have been declared as fake universities and these are not empowered to confer any degree," said the circular issued by UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain. Majority of these universities are from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Delhi.

The circular further stated that regarding Bharitya Shiksha Parishad the matter is sub-judice before district judge in Lucknow
