BJP leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He took to Twitter on Saturday to confirm the news, and requested all those who have come in contact with him to get tested.

Fadnavis is in charge of the party's campaign for the state elections in Bihar, and has to go into isolation just days before the polls.

He tweeted: “I have been working every single day since the lockdown but now it seems that God wants me to stop for a while and take a break ! I have tested #COVID19 positive and in isolation. Taking all medication & treatment as per the advice of the doctors.”

India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 78.14 lakh with 53,370 fresh cases in a day, while 70,16,046 people have so far recuperated pushing the national recovery rate to 89.78 per cent on Saturday, the Union health ministry said on Saturday.

Recently, Fadnavis had said the Uddhav Thackeray government must increase the number of Covid-19 determination tests in Maharashtra as the daily average was on a downward trend since September 1.

He said the low number of tests in October might be behind the reduction in coronavirus numbers on a daily basis, which he claimed was “hiding reality”.
