On Wednesday, India’s former solicitor general, currently a renowned advocate practising in the Supreme Court, Harish Salve (65) will tie the knot with his companion Caroline Brossard (56), a British artist, at a church ceremony in London. Salve had recently divorced Meenakshi Salve, his first wife of around four decades, earlier this year.
Born to a Marathi family, his father N.K.P Salve was a chartered accountant and mother Ambriti Salve a doctor, but Harish sought a separate career route. Starting off under former attorney general Soli Sorabjee, Salve's rise in the legal profession was meteoric; he has argued for a string of high-profile clients like Kulbhushan Jadhav, Ratan Tata (Cyrus Mistry dispute), Salman Khan (hit-and-run case) and Vodafone (tax dispute with Union of India). After passing the English Bar and joining Blackstone Chambers, he was appointed the Queen’s Counsel (QC) in England and Wales.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Salve, who says he is a baptised Christian and has been going to church for the past two years, met British-born Brossard at an art event and that they "shared values, and a passion for theatre and classical music". He has two daughters Sakshi (37) and Saaniya (33) from his first marriage.
