Karnataka Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar's daughter Aishwarya got engaged to Amartya Hegde, eldest son of late Cafe Coffee Day founder V.G. Siddhartha, in Bengaluru on Thursday. Hegde is also the grandson of former Union minister and BJP leader S.M. Krishna.

The event was attended by family and close friends of both the families, including Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. As per reports, the couple is likely to get married in February next year.

Aishwarya, who is managing Global Academy of Technology, an engineering college founded by Shivakumar in the outskirts of Bengaluru, was in news after she was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate last year in connection with her father's money laundering case.

Hegde has been handling the Coffee Day business since his father's untimely demise in July last year. Siddhartha had died by suicide last year on July 31.

The alliance was speculated to be agreed by both the families in June, but was discussed even before Siddhartha’s death, reported TNM.

Prior to joining the BJP in 2017, S.M. Krishna was with the Congress for decades and was the Foreign Minister in the Congress-led government from 2009 to 2012. Despite the switch, Krishna and Shivakumar are said to have remained close.
