Seven of a wedding party killed in bus accident in Kerala

Seven people from Karnataka, including three children, were killed and several injured after a private bus lost control and fell on top of a house on the Panathur-Sullia road in Kasaragod district of Kerala on Sunday.

The bus was carrying 65 members of a wedding party from Sullia in Karnataka.

The accident occurred three kilometres away from Panathur. Panathur is 60km east of district headquarters Kasaragod.

A local resident told Manorama News that the bus lost control while negotiating a curve. The house belonged to one Bhaskaran in Panathur. “No one lived in the house,” the local resident told Manorama News.

Eight of the seriously injured have been shifted to the Government Medical College, Pariyaram in Kannur district, while the others have been admitted to the District Hospital in Kanhangad. Kasaragod district collector D. Sajith Babu has deputed Kanhangad sub-collector to conduct an inquiry into the accident.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has condoled the deaths. “The injured have been shifted to the District Hospital in Kanhangad,” he said in a statement.

Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran too condoled the deaths. He said he has directed the Regional Transport Officer to submit an emergency report about the accident.
