Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to Kerala attracted a lot of eyeballs after he went with fishermen on their boat on Wednesday.
Rahul had claimed he went with the fishermen to the sea off Kollam to better understand their problems. Images and videos showed Rahul helping the fishermen spread nets and going for a swim with them.
But on Friday, some Congress leaders shared one of the images of that 'fishing trip', which showed Rahul in a wet T-shirt, which, to some, seemed to highlight his abdominal muscles ('abs'). Vijender Singh, who won bronze and silver medals for boxing at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, was among those who shared the image. Vijender Singh had contested from a seat in Delhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket, but was unsuccessful.
Singh tweeted the image of Rahul adding, "Abs of a boxer... Most daring young fit & people’s leader Way to go..."
Soon Rajeev Shukla, a former Congress Union minister, also tweeted the image. Shukla wrote, "@RahulGandhi has got abs also? Watch this photo closely. This is after he was swimming in sea."
Gaurav Pandhi, who is national coordinator for digital communications and social media for the Congress, also shared the image and asked Rahul to "share some tips with everyone on getting those abs".

Not surprisingly, the tweets on Rahul Gandhi's abs were trolled heavily.
Popular rightwing influencer Shefali Vaidya pointed out to Shukla that "every human being has abs". Vaidya tweeted, "Hi @ShuklaRajiv, every human being has ‘abs’, didn’t you take basic bio lessons in school? BTW, your darling @RahulGandhi has everything, abs, dimples, fair skin. Only thing he doesn’t have are brains!"
Another popular rightwing handle, The Frustrated Indian, suggested, "Congress should mention Rahul Gandhi's abs in their election manifesto so people can choose wisely..."
