An accused in a sexual assault case in 2018, who was out on bail, was reportedly shot dead the rape survivor's father at Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district. According to a video tweet by Hathras police chief Vineet Jaiswal, an altercation broke out between the survivor's father and the alleged rapist Sharma (first name conflicting in different reports)—against whom the father had filed a complaint— outside a temple. The accused and his accomplices had shot the father, who died on the way to the hospital.
Last year, Hathras had surged into notoriety when a woman was raped in a village in Hathras by four men. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital where she breathed her last on Tuesday.
