Security forces have foiled an ‘infiltration cum narco terror’ bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Army spokesperson Emran Musvi said in a statement that the Indian Army and the BSF along with J&K Police foiled the narco smuggling and infiltration attempt in the forward areas of Tangdhar Sector last night.
The forces also recovered 10 kg of narcotics worth approximately Rs 50 crore.
“This is the second busting of ‘narco terror model’ in the past one week,’’ Musvi said. “A 10 kg heroin consignment had been recovered from the same general area a week ago in a joint operation.”
On Tuesday night, the Army and BSF troops detected a suspicious movement and challenged the smugglers probably accompanied by “Pakistan based terrorists’.
“The contact was established with them near the LoC fence about 500m from the LoC,’’ he said. A brief exchange of fire took place in which one junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Army sustained minor injuries.
Musvi said a detailed search in the morning led to recovery of the narcotics. The infiltrators, however, managed to escape.
He said the narco smuggling and terror infiltration are known to be carried out through the Tangdhar bowl.
He said the police are carrying out investigations to identify the network involved in the smuggling and infiltration attempt.
Security forces, police and intelligence agencies continue to carry out synergised actions to counter any effort to carry out infiltration or smuggling of weapons and contraband across the LoC.
On February 25, India and Pakistan released a joint statement announcing a ceasefire along the LoC following talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries. Since then the LoC has been quiet and no ceasefire violation has been reported by Pakistan.
