Bihar Director General of Police S.K. Singhal has recently issued a circular in which he warned the police personnel across the state against indulging in their personal entertainment while on duty by unnecessarily using mobile phones and social media.
The DGP has noted that such distractions have not only diminished efficiency of the force but also brought embarrassment to the department when highlighted by the media.
Singhal, in his missive, warned that any such compromise on the efficiency of the police force would invite disciplinary action.
“At different parts of the city we can see these policemen busy playing or talking on their smartphones or messaging each other. This seems to be their prime duty," the circular, which has since gone viral on social platforms, said.
"All senior officials are therefore advised to instructions to their subordinates accordingly. Non-compliance be treated as indiscipline and action be initiated accordingly,” it said.
According to media reports, there have been a number complaints about police officers appearing to be busy on their smartphones while on duty.
