The statements of a couple of legislators in Karnataka are damaging the image of BJP, said party's national general secretary and state in-charge Arun Singh on Thursday. He was addressing a press meet after holding a marathon (one-to-one) meeting with more than 50 legislators at the state BJP office in Bengaluru.
“The demand for change of leadership is only from 2-3 legislators. But their statements are hurting the sentiment of lakhs of BJP workers and damaging the party's image, too. We are keeping a close watch on them,” Singh said.
Singh, who tried to downplay the dissidence within the party, admitted that only 2-3 people were giving public statements and that they were new to the BJP and its culture.
"I have noticed that the ones making damaging statements in the open are new to the BJP. They have no idea about party discipline. We cannot allow such behaviour as the party was built by the hard work of our party workers," said Singh, making a reference to MLC H. Vishwanath's statement about the need for replacing Yediyurappa as the chief minister.
Singh, who is on a three-day visit to the state capital, has already held close-door meetings with the chief minister, other ministers and legislators and will be attending the state BJP core committee meeting on Friday.
Singh lauded the work of BJP legislators and the party workers in Covid relief work and said while both the Congress and the JD(S) were missing in action, the BJP was working in ground zero.
"I have reviewed the work of our legislators and I am satisfied with their work. However, I feel they need to tell people about the flagship programmes of the Modi government. We are also working on a roadmap for the upcoming Assembly elections," said Singh, who declined to comment on the allegations of corruption against the chief minister's son Vijayendra made by Vishwanath or the phonetapping allegation against the government made by BJP MLA Aravind Bellad.
