Krishna Roy, the wife of Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. She was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata last month for COVID treatment.

Reportedly, Krishna died of cardiac arrest at 4:35 am on Tuesday. Her body will be brought back to Kolkata on Wednesday.

Mukul Roy had hogged the limelight recently as he returned to the TMC from the BJP after the assembly elections in West Bengal. While Mukul won the Krishnanagar North seat in Nadia district, his son tasted defeat from the Bijpur seat that he held in the North 24 Parganas district.

Speculations were rife of his return to the TMC as Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who was recently made the national general secretary of the Trinamool, was reported to have made a visit to the hospital where Krishna was admitted last month. Reports said that he spent 10 minutes, sparking speculations that Mukul might eventually return to the party he left in 2017.
