Ecstasy pills worth Rs 50 lakh sent from Spain were seized after the drugs reached Chennai, and two individuals were arrested in this connection, the Customs Department said on Sunday. Acting on inputs, the personnel of the department opened a cardboard box and found in it 994 ecstasy pills, also known as methylene-dioxy-meth-amphetamine (MDMA).

Also, the personnel found 249 lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamps worth Rs 6 lakh concealed in a greeting card in the parcel addressed to a person in Auroville near the Union territory of Puducherry, an official release said. The stamps are hallucinogens and are soaked in sheets of absorbent paper with colourful designs that are cut into small, individual dosage units. A search was made based on the address mentioned and two persons, in their late 20s, were held. During the search, ganja (cannabis) weighing 5.50 kg worth Rs 2.50 lakh was also seized. The arrested two were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody, the release said.
