Schools in Punjab were allowed to resume all classes from August 2 as the government announced further relaxation in view of a decline in COVID-19 cases.

The government, however, made it clear that the schools will have to follow Covid protocol and maintain Covid appropriate behaviour inside the premises.

"All schools are allowed to open for all classes from August 2. They shall follow proper protocols to ensure COVID-19-appropriate behaviour," according to the fresh guidelines.

On July 26, the state government had allowed the reopening of schools for classes 10 to 12. In that order, it allowed only those teachers and staff who are fully vaccinated to return to schools. It was mandatory for schools to seek written consent from parents for sending their children to attend classes. The government has said that virtual classes will continue.

Punjab has so far reported a total of 5,99,053 COVID-19 infections and 16,292 deaths.
