A few Karnataka BJP legislators who were inducted into the cabinet on Wednesday set an interesting precedence by taking oath in the name of ‘Gaumata’ and farmers.

While Prabhu Chauhan took oath in the name of Gaumata, Murugesh Nirani did so in the name of gods and farmers. Anand Singh took oath in the name of Vijayanagara Virupaksha and Thaayi Bhuvaneshwari.

A total of 29 MLAs were sworn in on Wednesday as new Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai, who took oath on July 28, expanded his cabinet. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new council of ministers at the ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in the afternoon.

Among the 29 legislators who took oath on Wednesday, six are new faces while 23 were ministers in the Yediyurappa cabinet.

Bommai had earlier said that he would not have any deputy chief ministers in the cabinet as per the directions of the party leadership. Former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s younger son and state BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra has not been included in the cabinet.
