Tremor were felt in parts of Chennai on Tuesday shortly after an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the Richter Scale occurred in the Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The News Minute reported the tremors were experienced in Thiruvanmiyur, Alwarpet and localities close to the sea. According to reports, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km.

The News Minute reported "tremors were felt in Andhra 296 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 312 km south-southeast of Rajamundry, 339km south-east of Guntur and 386 km east-northeast of Tirupati. In Tamil Nadu, it was felt 320 km east north-east of Chennai."
The IMD said the epicentre of the earthquake was near Kakinada.
