Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday warned the Narendra Modi government that "disdain for people’s pain is harmful".

Surjewala's statement came as counting of votes to bypolls to three Lok Sabha seats and 29 Assembly constituencies across the country continued. The Congress has registered gains in states such as Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra. However, the BJP and its allies have continued their dominance in the northeastern states where bypolls were held.

Surjewala claimed the BJP had “lost at most places in direct contest with INC. HP, Raj., Karnataka & Maharashtra have witnessed it".

He called on Modi to "shed arrogance! Repeal 3 Black Laws! Stop Petrol-Diesel-Gas Loot!"

The Congress won all three Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh—Fatehpur, Arki and Jubbal Kotkhai—where bypolls were held. Himachal Pradesh, which is ruled by the BJP, will hold Assembly elections towards the end of next year.

The Congress is also leading in the bypoll for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, with Pratibha Singh leading over her BJP rival by 8,766 votes.

In Rajasthan, the Congress won Dhariawad Assembly seat by 18,725 votes and is leading in Vallabhnagar by over 20,400 votes. The performance will boost confidence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot tweeted his gratitude to the Congress workers and leaders who campaigned in the two constituencies.

In Maharashtra, the Congress won Deglur Assembly seat, with Jitesh Antapurkar defeating BJP's Subhash Sabne by over 30,000 votes.

In Karnataka, the Congress won Hangal Assembly seat, with Mane Srinivas defeating his BJP rival by 7,373 votes. The BJP won Sindgi seat with Bhusanur Ramesh Balappa defeating his Congress rival by over 31,000 votes.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP was leading in the Assembly constituencies of Prithvipur and Jobat, while the Congress was ahead in Raigaon seat, with Kalpana Verma leading over BJP's Pratima Bagari by 10,342 votes.

The BJP is also all set to retain the Khandwa Parliament seat in Madhya Pradesh, with Gyaneshwar Patil leading over his Congress rival by over 76,000 votes.
