A suspect in the Ludhiana court blast case, Jasvinder Singh Multani was arrested in Germany. Multani is a prominent member of the designated terror group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). Multani was arrested on Monday. Two more names of suspects residing in Pakistan and Germany, belonging to banned Sikh organisations, emerged during the investigation.
45-year-old Multani was a resident of Hoshiarpur in Punjab. Multani and his two brothers were said to be running a store in Germany. He is said to be a close associate of SFJ founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and is involved in separatist activities. Multani is a pro-Khalistan radical.
Multani was handling weapons consignments comprising explosives, hand grenades and pistols from across the border with the help of Pakistan-based operatives when he showed up on the radar of security agencies. The police officer said that Multani was planning to carry out radical activities in Punjab with the use of the consignments. A team of Indian police officials will soon reach Germany to interrogate Multani.
Multani is said to have sourced locally made weapons to target Balbir Singh Rajewal, the president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union-Rajewal. The bomb blast on December 23 at the Ludhiana court complex killed one and injured two.
