AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi declared he was not afraid and would continue campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh polls, hours after his car was allegedly fired upon in Hapur on Thursday evening.

At least one person was arrested in connection with the incident

Owaisi tweeted late on Thursday night “I am not one to be afraid, nor am I going to take security. I will continue my election campaign... if they have courage, then attempt to kill me.”

Owaisi spoke to News 24 about the incident. He claimed the firing incident was not the work of just two people, adding “there is a greater brain behind them”.

“If the Narendra Modi government and the Yogi government attempt to save them [culprits], then it won't be in national interest. Once cancer spreads in the country, rule by gun will happen, rule of law will weaken and anarchy will increase,” Owaisi told News 24.

Owaisi also retweeted posts showing one Sachin, purportedly the individual arrested for the incident. The posts retweeted by Owaisi showed him with senior BJP leaders such as UP Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Mishra and MP Satyapal Singh.

ADG Prashant Kumar had said Sachin was a resident of Badalpur area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district and an illegal pistol was seized from him.
