The killing of a Bajrang Dal activist in Shivamogga is not an “isolated case” of murder but an “act of terror”, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said on Tuesday. Surya, who is the chief of the BJP's youth wing, made the comment after meeting the family of Harsha, the murdered Bajrang Dal activist.
Surya said Harsha, who was hacked to death by six men on the night of February 20, was killed only because he worked for the cause of hindutva and not for any personal reasons.
“The cycle of murders of Hindu activists in Karnataka is a planned criminal conspiracy by few radical Islamic organisations. These incidents should not be treated as isolated murder cases, but as acts of terror. By treating it as isolated cases, there is the risk of derailing the investigation and the real perpetrators cannot be apprehended. So, Harsha's case must be prosecuted under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA),” said Surya. He alleged organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI), Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Campus Front of India were exporting the “Kerala model of terror” to Karnataka and different parts of the country.
Stressing on the need to set up an exclusive anti-terror cell in Karnataka, Surya urged the chief minister to make provisions to set up the new cell in the upcoming state budget. “The state needs an ATC with adequate resources to monitor, collect intelligence, pre-empt and investigate acts of terror in coordination with the National Investigation Agency. The existing police force is simply inadequate to deal with the threat of terror,” said Surya, also urging the chief minister to amend the KCOCA act in the budget session.

“The amendment to KCOCA act will help declare organisations involved in violence incidents as 'organised crime syndicate' and break the nexus of the organisations indulging in such activities,” reasoned Surya.
Stating that Karnataka needs to prepare a dossier on the radical outfits in the state on lines of Uttar Pradesh, Surya said, “The state must prepare a comprehensive dossier on radical organisations based on irrefutable evidence that can stand the judicial test and request the Centre to outlaw them. I urge the CM to take these urgent institutional measures to help end the murder of Hindu activists in the state.”
