The BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party have won overwhelming majorities in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab respectively as counting of votes for the assembly elections of five states draws to a close.

The saffron party will retain power in Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while the AAP's maiden win in Punjab will pave the way for Bhagwant Mann to claim the CM's chair there.

The BJP is also winning by a large margin in Uttarakhand, decimating the Congress, which is a distant second.

In Goa and Manipur, the BJP is approaching the halfway mark.
